WHAT RENTING AND STREAMING SERVICES ARE ON THE MARKET?
The renting market is huge for movies in the 2016. There once were companies that would open stores, such as Blockbuster, and customers would have to physically enter a shop and rent a VHS or DVD. The renting business has evolved throughout the 2000's as consumers are now able to access a wide range of films with the click of a button on internet streaming sights, the most popular being Netflix, Amazon Prime and Sky Movies. Horror films have always been one of the most popular genres of film to rent and are arguably even more popular now than ever before.
BLOCKBUSTER
The original service which pioneered the movie rental business was Blockbuster. Blockbuster provided a service where people can rent films, games or albums for a short period of time and then return them after they were finished. It was popular as some people did not want to go about buying these things permanently so a rented service was a lot more effective. Rentals would cost £3.50 to £4.50 and lasted for five nights. However, Blockbuster was made obsolete in 2010 by the rise of online streaming services such as Netflix , Amazon Prime and Sky Movies.
