The Locations
We filmed all our scenes within our school and sixth form centre as there were areas which reflected the kind of places the group would be centred around. We used quiet, dimly lit areas to the school which we previously located during the research process. The only exception is the bath tub scene which we filmed at Josh's house. We wanted this particular scene to be in a typical household to show the kind of influence this group has, being able to infiltrate people living in normal homes in the suburbs.
Caretakers Flat
The caretakers flat suited our project because it was a typical home living space. The absence of furnishings after the caretaker moved out added to the 'creepy' and 'isolated' feel we wanted to achieve. The plastic covering the walls was added to create the effect of a "kill room" where the group were able to do their planning and murders. The Sanctuary are essentially a mass murdering cult who operate in secrecy, the typical looking flat gave them the sense of innocence, when in reality and metaphorical and tangible door reveals whats really going on behind the scenes.
Josh's Bathroom
Although the caretakers flat had a bath, we chose to use Josh's because it fitted in well with with costume changes. This location also suited us better because it gave us more time to film and get the scene right. After multiple attempts we managed to get some excellent footage for an iconic scene in our trailer. We thought to use a typical, sub-urban house's bathroom as it shows The Sanctuary prey on normal people.
Behind the Stage
The space behind the school stage is essentially a storage area where multiple items used for school productions are housed. It is also extremely dimly lit and overcrowded with random items. This suited our project because it was an isolated area that was perfect for a killer to hide in. we wanted multiple areas where killers could bring their victims and this represented a perfect location for this.
School Hall
The school hall was a perfect area for public addresses; as seen in the beginning of our trailer. The wide open spaces was designed for exactly what we needed. It was important we made sure that any and all school logos were omitted from the filming in order create the image of this being a resource used entirely by the The Sanctuary at one of their many locations.
