POSTER ANALYSIS
Film Posters are a brilliant way of advertising and promoting. Big Hollywood, Blockbuster films use horror posters at locations such as cinemas, shopping centres and bus shelters.
WOULD YOU RATHER |
In The Would You Rather film poster, the first thing to analyse is the use of text. A sharp, thick font is used in order to look intimidating and graphic. The usage of blood red colour in the text has strong connotations to horror and danger. The nature of would you rather evolves around pain and torture, so the blood red text is very fitting for this particular poster. The blood red text is used for the title and the surnames of the actors. We can also analyse the imagery that has been used. The diner plate and cutlery set up is used as the film focuses on a dinner party where the guests are forced to play a harrowing game. The plate is smashed and each shard holds a character or situation from the film. The shards of plate have connotations of danger as they are sharp which links back to elements of danger. We also have two quotes from the critics above and below the poster and also a tagline that reads "Keep telling yourself it is just a game". This tagline links back to the idea of the film and emphasises the fact that it is horror.

SINISTER
In the Sinister Film Poster, the title text which is used is a harrowing, black, shadow like effect, burned onto the cracked wall behind it. The black has strong connotations of evil which is a huge theme in the sinister film series. We also have a tagline below the title reading "Once you see him, nothing can save you" which relates directly to the plot of the film. . The white text at the top of the poster mentions how the film was produced y the same people who brought you Insidious and Paranormal Activity. These are two iconic horror film series made in the past decade so the reference makes the film more desirable to see. The image in the centre of the poster is a girl dragging a blood soaked hand across a wall and the blood stains form the face of the evil character in the Sinister films. This links directly to the plot of the film as the evil character is the force who makes the girl kill. At the bottom of the poster, we can see the production details and social media details on how to interact with the film online.

INSIDIOUS
In the insidious film poster, the text is vertically written with the word Insidious. The text is mainly a non-threatening white apart from the "S and I" in the word which is in the blood red we often find in horror films. This connotations of red are danger and blood which are common themes in horror films . The text above informs you that the makers of this film also created films such as Paranormal Activity and Saw, two massive horror films which are intended to attract more people to watch the film. The image in the centre of the Poster is of the boy who gets possessed in the film standing in front of the family home. This direct relation to the film gives people an incite into what the film is about. The boys stare is focused directly at anybody looking at the poster in order to provide a creepy aesthetic. The text at the bottom refers to the production details and when the film is due to be released.

SAW
In the Saw poster, the font used for the title is gritty and black to fit in with the films gruesome nature. It looks rustic and almost hand drawn which is different to classic movie text which is made to look professional. Saw is a gritty, blood soaked film unlike conventional horrors so the text on the poster compliments it well. The image shown on screen is of a severed hand which is a large part of the film is based around. Torture, gore and blood surrounds the entire film from the start to the finish. Having the severed hand as the centrepiece gives the audience an incite into the film of what to expect later. Blood splatters and the jagged edge of a saw, implying the hand was cut off with it, is seen at the top of the poster as well. This all relates directly to the plot of the film. At the bottom we find the production details.
