Interviews
As part of our audience research, we conducted several interviews amongst our fellow students and teachers at Churchdown School to see their opinions on horror films. From our year we asked Morgen Taylor and Jordan Smith as we know they are keen admirers of horror films and were more than happy to be on camera. We also interviewed two year 10's called Callum and Basil (who did not feature in the footage but we took his contribution on board for our research). As for staff members, the media department duo Miss Wisby and Miss Thomas provided some excellent contributions as they have been teaching the horror course in depth for a long time and are also admirers of the genre. The questions we asked were aimed to zone in on what people liked about the genre, and also what they would be more open to seeing on screen. Our research noticed that supernatural films seemed to be quite popular, also slasher came up as an option in which people found entertaining. This shows us that although supernatural is a popular sub-genre, slasher is popular yet an evident gap in the market is present for a modern day, relatable slasher film. We also found out the the popular genre besides horror was comedy ( for example when Callum mentioned the popular comical horror Shaun Of The Dead starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost) . This suggests to us that elements of dark humour would be good to include in our short film when best appropriate. Other questions we asked included things such as favourite horror villain, location and the age people first started watching horror films. All of this information we gathered will be taken on board for us to create a successful project.
